Since they learned of Shen Yuan's death, things have been subdued; rightly so, Lancelot reasons. He has done what he can to be a support for those he loves, and to keep his own worry and anxiety at bay. He worries about how they are all doing, about whether or not they are safe, about what he can do to make anything better -- which often feels like nothing. It's unsettling, and he wants to stay settled and present for them, so he determines to find a way to be so.

As has always been the case for him, being outside helps. The weather is warming and true spring is settling in. (He has difficulty keeping track of what time may be like back in Britain¹, but he suspects that it is early summer there. If so, then he supposes that means he is another year older, which is a strangely hopeful thought.) And so, after his lunch with Susan, he heads back out -- he might ride, or walk through the woods, or explore the lake. Whatever keeps him out in the sunshine, under the sky.

^{1: He has not quite realized this yet, but he has generally stopped thinking "at home" when he means Camelot, or Britain in general. That this place -- no, these people -- have become home in so short a span is something he has to take by degrees, lest he worry about what it means for his relationship with those he left behind there.}

Kade's around! He spots Lancelot from a distance on the heels of his latest attempt at running. "It's been a while," he calls, once he's caught his breath.

"Aye, so it has," he smiles at Kade. "How art thou?"

"Fine, fine," wheezing. He straightens up and forces himself to jog closer. "How's life been treating you?"

"I am well. Art thou running for sport?"

Kade laughs. "I had a vision," he says. "Not a literal one. My--" he never really knows how to refer to Cora. Ex-wife? Esteemed colleague? "Someone back home was always real adamant that I be able to outrun a velociraptor. She'd be so dismayed at me doing nothing but sewing."

He smiles a little, "What is a 'velociraptor'?" He says it very carefully, but with real curiosity.

"You hear about dinosaurs yet?"

"Some. Giant beasts, not unlike dragons, yes?"

"Some of 'em. They were really all different sizes."

"Oh, I see. So that is a type of dinosaur?"

"Yeah! Yay high--" Kade holds out a hand, low, about waist-height --"and fast, clever, and bloodthirsty."

"Bloodthirsty?" He laughs a little, "Aye, thou shouldst ensure thou canst run from them. That's good sense."

"Granted," says Kade, a wickedly amused twinkle in his eye, "the one time I nearly didn't outrun a dinosaur trying to eat me, it was one of the big motherfuckers."

"Christ," with another laugh, "that sounds terrible. Thankfully, thou'rt still here."

"Yeah, and a beautiful woman got real disgruntled at my lack of survival skills about it. She used to keep me honest about at least being able to run. Hence--" Kade spreads his hands wide.
