Lancelot is in a very good mood indeed. He feels settled, assured. He feels as he did, he thinks, back when he first found his feet at court -- he is someplace he belongs, he can be assured that people will treat him with respect, if not kindness or welcoming. He lets himself revel in it, a little, as it's been a long while since he felt anywhere near as nice as this.

The weather is good: sunny, crisp, the familiar feeling of autumn as winter is hovering close by. He goes to his own room and fetches his sword. He runs his usual drills, though with a kind of ease and almost carelessness he hasn't had since he was young. (Perhaps he is young enough, still. He can't be sure. He has already lived past the age his father was when he died, but that means almost nothing. His father died in battle and Lancelot is, now, no longer likely to ever see such a fate.)

Afterwards, he showers and decides he might as well find breakfast. So he's now heading toward one of the kitchens, looking cheerful for once.

He was likewise not expecting Susan, the surprise and delight shows. His face lights up to see her, in a bright, charming smile.

Lancelot gives her an overly formal bow, teasing, "Good morrow, my lady. How dost thou?"

"Good sir," says Susan, turning to face him more squarely. She's definitely leaning against the counter in a way that allows her dress to emphasize her figure. "I'm well, but be wary: I've just spotted a notorious dog-thief."

"Troubling," he laughs, "I'll keep watch. No harm shall come to any creature, an I can help it."

"I imagine you'll spirit all such creatures away to your quarters, where they can hide in safety," she nods.

"Aye, possibly." He sobers just a little, "Truly, though, how dost? Slept well?"

"Oh, very," says Susan. The electric kettle - this place is such a marvel! - is still heating behind her, so she heaves herself away from the counter and takes a step closer to him. "I trust you did as well?"

He holds a hand out to her, "I did. It was nice to wake near thee."

She slides their fingers together. "It was," she says, and moves her gaze from their hands to Lancelot's face. "I wouldn't mind doing it again."

He raises their hands to kiss her knuckles lightly, saying boldly, "I am ever at thy service."

Susan's smile broadens. "Are you!" she says, well pleased. "Jolly good."

Lancelot laughs, squeezing her hand before he lets it go. "I apologize for leaving so early. I am not much good at staying abed."

"Mmmm." The electric kettle finishes boiling, and Susan turns to attend to her tea, affecting a very put-upon sort of businesslike tone of disappointment. "Yes. I shall have to add 'pillow removal' to your list of crimes, sir."

"I should be held to account, that is true. 'Twas indeed comfortable with thee there."

"Pillows and puppies," says Susan, tsking. There's already a teabag in her mug; she pours the boiling water over the whole affair. "I shall have to put a notice out on that little welcome table. 'Beware the scoundrel with the sweet smile; his crimes are vaster than you may suspect.'" Now that her tea is steeping, she glances sideways at him. "Unless you find some small way to convince me otherwise."

"Oho," chuckling, "I needs must -- there are enough who mistrust me without adding puppies into the reckoning. How might such a thing be done?"

He pretends to ponder for a moment, then comes to her and kisses her cheek, sliding an arm around her waist. "It requires much thought."

Susan turns into his touch, tilting her face up in case he should like to kiss anything besides her cheek. "I imagine you'll think of something," she teases. "But be warned: I am much hardened to the wiles of criminals."

"I doubt it not," warmly. He cups her cheek and kisses her, doing his best to keep it sensible.

Susan returns the kiss, but draws away - albeit with great reluctance - after a moment or two. She knows for a fact that SecUnit keeps some of his delightful little machines in the kitchens, and she does not want to get carried away in front of them, lest SecUnit see more than he (it?) bargained for. "You have stayed my hand for the day," she decides. "But only the one."

"Thou'rt merciful," light and very pleased. "What plans hast thou for today?"

Lancelot knows nothing of SecUnit's machines (nor much, if anything, of SecUnit itself), but if he did he would likely be grateful for Susan's consideration on this point.

"Oh, the usual," says Susan. She should turn and remove her teabag, but she's loathe to step away from Lancelot. "I've found a history book that, for me, is more of a future book to poke through, and then I've made plans for lunch with a true cad." Her gaze upon him softens. "Then I thought I might go bully Thomas into reminiscing about the London we've left behind if he's not busy, and I believe Janet wanted to show me something this evening." She slips an arm around his waist, standing quite close. "And you? I've heard a rumor that you might have lunch plans, as well."
