Lancelot feels that things have been a strange mix of tumult and routine. This is probably because they have. But today, so far, is routine in all respects. His day has proceeded apace through his usual steps -- drills, tending to Rivelin, coffee, lunch with Susan -- and the afternoon is now stretching out before him in a very satisfying way. He feels good, settled.

And so it is that he's in the café, reading (or mostly reading), with more coffee at hand. Given that he seems to be splitting time equally between having his eyes on his book and gazing out the window, he will not be bothered if anyone comes to chat.

Lancelot spends a long moment looking, considering. He tries to imagine Susan's reaction, or Grantaire's. He tries to discern whether this is something they, or anyone else, might like.

They would, he supposes, be surprised. He thinks they would be pleased. He isn't sure how he feels about it, but then he's often unsure of how he sees himself.

Eventually he says, "I like it. I think it's good. What do you think?"

"Well," says Kade, and he turns to sort though a shelf he's installed next to the mirror, looking for clips. "I'd take the t-shirt in in a few places so it fits you more naturally--I think they're kind of boxy, without tailoring, and your waist is definitely more trim than your shoulders. By which I mean--the look itself is good on you, as long as you're comfortable in it and feel like yourself wearing it. But--" and here he pauses to pull his sweater off, so he's standing in his own t-shirt and jeans. Then he goes to stand next to Lancelot, so they're looking in the mirror together. "Do you see how this fits me like a glove, basically? That's because I tailor all my own clothes to fit me in the way that I like. The shirt's a little loose, but I like it like that." When he was still in his binder every day, a looser shirt more easily obscured the lines of it; now that he's had top surgery, he loves feeling unconstricted.

"I see," after a long moment he smiles a little, "I think I like this well enough to try it, though I admit I don't know when I might wear such a thing."

"Out and about?" Kade suggests. "In rotation with your other things?"

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Hmm, aye. Perhaps so. Then it will seem more familiar, with time."

[kadewest]

"The top is called a t-shirt. The jacket--do I have to explain it?" Kade smiles. "Obviously I can tailor it to be even more flattering." He pauses. "Ready to try the next thing?"

Lancelot shrugs a little, "Aye. Let's."

So Kade goes back to his pile of clothes. "Keep the t-shirt on for now," he says, and tosses Lancelot a pair of corduroy pants and a big cable-knit sweater. "This set will be cozier, I think. You can mix and match, of course, once we figure out what feels best for you."

So he takes a few minutes to swap outfits, and once he's in the corduroys and sweater he goes back to the mirror to consider.

"This is comfortable."

"Women love cozying up to a comfy guy," says Kade, grinning--this look will surely help Lancelot with his objective. And then he remembers just how many people here aren't straight. "Men probably do too, if that's more your thing."

He chuckles, "Is that so?" There's a little pause as he considers, before saying, "I do have a lady, and I believe she would enjoy that. And there are men whose opinion I'd consider."

[kadewest]

"Oh yeah?" Is Kade the only guy here who isn't bisexual and probably-polyamorous?

"Perhaps."

[kadewest]

"Well, obviously I want to hear all about it," Kade says. After all, gossip is a form of story. "I have more stuff for you to try, too." Turtlenecks, buttondowns, blazers, vests, nice slacks... the list goes on.

Lancelot laughs, "Do you? I doubt it's terribly interesting."

He turns, "I will try whatever you suggest. I do like this, though."

"I'll be the judge of that," says Kade, tossing Lancelot one of the turtlenecks.

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Of how interesting it might be?" He carefully sheds the sweater, and hesitates before tugging gently at the t-shirt, "This too?"

"Yes," says Kade. Since Lancelot liked sweaters, he's going to find more sweaters--they're one of the few things he can't make himself. Over his shoulder as he goes back into the warren of clothes to find some, he clarifies, "To both!"

"Very well," half to himself. He pulls the t-shirt off and then attempts to sort out the turtleneck -- it's not as easy to put on as the other things have been, and once it's on he finds, almost immediately, that he does not like it. He frowns a little and goes to look in the mirror to try to sort out his reaction.

Kade emerges with a couple more sweaters in varying colors and textures. "That's a good look," he observes. "What do you think?"

"It looks well enough, but it is not particularly comfortable." By which he means, it's not at all comfortable and it somehow makes him itch in a way that has little to do with the fabric itself. "It is like unto a gorget, which I mislike but have tolerated-- it's been months, though, since I had any armor on."

"Then I'll cross turtlenecks off the list," says Kade, easily. "One of these sweaters is a cowlneck, which might feel different?"

Lancelot nods and pulls the turtleneck off immediately. "Well. It is a good thing to know, at any rate."

[kadewest]

"Let's try a button-down next," Kade says, and pulls one out of the original pile for Lancelot to try. "You can do these with or without an undershirt." Kade would generally go with with. "You can also control high up it goes, if you don't like things up snug against your neck."

This one is familiar, in that it feels much like the shirt that he wore under the suit. He has it on and though it takes him a minute with the buttons -- which he does up to the top of his sternum -- he's clearly comfortable with it.
